Joy Unspeakable Homeschool Band
This program provides both individual and group music programs for children from age 3 until high school graduation.

The group activities available vary for each age group.

-Children ages 3-6* (Pre-kindergarten through 1st grade) participate in a percussion group that teaches them the basics of reading music notation while using various instruments that help develop their growing motor skills.

-Children ages 7-9* (2nd and 3rd grades) participate in a recorder group.  The recorder is a small wind-blown instrument with holes that must be covered with the fingers, similar to woodwind instruments like clarinet.  They will learn the basic music notation that the younger children learn, as well as learning to read musical notes on a staff.

-Children ages 10 and up* (4th grade through graduation) participate in band programs just like their peers in public schools!  There are beginning, intermediate, and advanced band classes offered every semester, as well as a marching band in the fall.

*Once students successfully complete certain requirements for each class (which differ for each class) they are allowed to move up to the next class even if they are not in the age group for the next class.  We have had children as young as 5 on recorder and children as young as 8 in beginning band.  This depends on many factors, including your child's maturity level (relative to their age, of course), ability to grasp the concepts taught, and willingness to practice at home as well as your willingness to reinforce the importance of practicing at home.

All children will learn not only how to read and play music, but also about music theory, performance techniques, history, and composition.  As the program grows, more and more opportunities arise for the students!  This program provides both individual and group music programs for children from age 3 until high school graduation.

Please read our Band Handbook (use the "Contact" link below to request it).  It has not been updated for this semester, but likely will be updated soon to reflect the changes that we have made this school year.  All students (new and returning) and their parents are required to read this.  It is long, so please pay attention to the table of contents.  Everyone must review the General Guidelines, Rehearsal Rules, Performance Rules, Behavior Related Rules, and Calendar Addendum before the semester begins.  If you are not in Marching Band, it is not necessary to read the Marching Band section.
